SharedHarvest Food Exchanges
What is it?
A SharedHarvest Food Exchange functions like a 24/7 online farmers market and food bank rolled into one. Plus, it's an informational resource on food-related matters, created by a community to serve that community.
The SharedHarvest Food Exchange achieves two primary goals:
- To allow local food producers and consumers to find each other and make contact quickly and easily.
- To serve as a single public donation point of contact for charities engaged in food rescue and distribution.
In addition to posting Available and Wanted listings for fresh & rescue food, a SharedHarvest Food Exchange has other community resources such as:
- A News & Info section to publicize local events, meetings, highlight initiatives, or any other relevant information
- Multiple Directories such as Directory of Farmers Markets, Berry Producers, Certified Organic Growers, etc
- Guides (for Certified Organics, Rescue Food, etc), Events Listings, and more!
Who will use the SharedHarvest Food Exchange in your community?
- Local growers/producers might include: Farmers, beekeepers, backyard gardeners, fruit growers, bakers, vintners
- Local consumers might include: Individuals, local restaurants, cafeterias, and other retail food outlets, anyone wanting a direct relationship with the people producing their food
