Norm Ruttan

President

norm.jpg Norm is the owner and general manager of iWasteNot systems. After 26 years of public service in the Canadian National Parks system as a Park Naturalist, Visitor Services Officer, Area Manager and National Park Superintendent Norm semi-retired in 2003. Prior to working for Canada's National Park system Norm worked from 1967 to 1974 as a High School Science and Biology teacher . From 2002 to 2005 Norm helped establish and organize the operation of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve - Canada's 12th UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. In 2004/05 Norm was President of the Canadian Biosphere Reserves Association and Leader for a visit to the People's Republic of China which resulted in twinning 3 Canadian Biosphere Reserves with 3 Chinese Biosphere Reserves. During the same period, Norm worked part-time with iWasteNot Systems to help establish our company.

  • It is better for one company to produce 100 excellent waste exchanges, than for 100 companies to duplicate processes so that each produces 1 mediocre waste exchange.
  • A successful company listens and responds to clients, and engages in continuous improvement.
  • We sell long-term service rather than short-term, one-off products.

Since mid-2005 Norm has devoted himself to growing iWasteNot Systems including The Reuses Network - our new 3R's Community Portal System for non-profit environmental organizations.

James Ruttan

C.E.O

James Ruttan has more than fifteen years experience managing teams and highly technical processes in both the software industry and the world of film and television.

During the early 1990s, James managed Timberlake Software, a small company which created databases for the medical insurance industry.  He left to travel and teach in Asia and when he returned to Canada began working in the film industry, becoming an accredited editor in the process.  Later, as Post Production Supervisor, James broke new ground and shepherded twin award-winning television series (Weird Homes and Weird Wheels, the first High Definition television series produced in Vancouver) from raw footage to final delivery.  James went on to manage a prestigious multi-million dollar film and television Post-Production services facility, Post Digital Works, and managed Visual FX at Technicolor Vancouver before joining iWasteNot Systems.

James is now the C.E.O. at iWasteNot Systems which provides online sustainability tools throughout North America.  James is a 'people person' who loves working with clients and his team to meet real world goals.  As an added plus, the combination of high technology and an environmental purpose in his position satisfies his geeky side.

Jackie Hutchings

Communications Coordinator

Jackie has over 25 years experience in communications. Not literally, but she worked in the service industry as a General Manager, Office Manager, and bartender where she was dealing with people on a daily basis. She was editor of a small magazine in Toronto where her writing, photography and design skills were put to use. Jackie owned a graphic design company for over 10 years and she also worked in the corporate world for four years as a Graphic Designer in a Toronto hospital. Jackie has met many different people on her journey here and has learnt how to adapt to these different personalities and to put people at ease.

As Communications Coordinator at iWasteNot Systems Jackie ensures that our clients and our staff play nicely together, shows clients how to use our software, creates newsletters and tutorials, keeps an eagle eye on our Communications Centers, and basically assists our clients in any way she can. She of course does a lot more than this but we have only alloted her a certain amount of space!
